Blessings in Disguise

Feeling rather itchy and quite miserable
Soaking in this bath right now is where I want to dwell
Pondering the meaning of heaven and hell.
Just the other day, I was well, not a problem to be had
Then seemingly out of nowhere, the itching drove me mad
It’s funny how, sometimes, we don’t really see
The blessings that are before us when we are perfectly healthy.
Good skin that doesn’t blister, itch, irritate or swell
Is something I never said “thank you” for when all was considerably well.
How many other items am I forgetting to appreciate?
Lord help me to see them before they start to depreciate.
Don’t let my mind be clouded by complaints that never end
Instead allow me to remember my gratitude to send.
When things get better and all is back to normal,
Help me remember hell…
for it is only then we truly feel the goodness of our lives.
The calamities help us to unveil. They are blessings in disguise.
